“Geht Jazz ohne Soul? Geht Soul ohne Jazz? Am schönsten ist es doch, wenn beides zusammenkommt.”

Mit knapp 36 Minuten ist eXante relativ kurz, aber die Sängerin und ihr Produzent, der Bassist Petter Eldh, nutzen jede Sekunde auf denkbar beste Weise: Musiker*innen aus dem persönlichen Umfeld ließen neun komplexe und prägnante Songs aus Kalos Feder im hellsten Glanz erstrahlen.

Wer eXante einlegt, auflegt oder abruft, hört nicht nur, aber auf jeden Fall auch: Jazz. Sera Kalos Timbre, ihre Melodien sind nicht allein von Lauryn Hill und Erykah Badu beeinflusst, sondern auch von Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington und Billie Holiday.

Die trickreichen Metren, die Sensibilität ihrer Rhythmusgruppe — all das spricht eine deutliche Sprache. Es ist komplett folgerichtig, dass Sera Kalo auf Jazzfestivals spielt, ihr Album auf einem Jazzlabel erscheint und in einem Jazzmagazin besprochen wird.
